Karl Ljung, the restaurateur behind L\u2019Avventura, has visited their vineyard and Villa Pattono in Piemonte and gained insight into Ratti\u2019s fascinating story, something we\u2019re excited to share with you.\r\n\r\n\u201cRatti\u2019s wines represent us well. They are meticulously crafted, offering a remarkable experience at great value,\u201d<\/em> says Karl Ljung.","tcc_content":"The Ratti family has played a significant role in shaping Italian wine, particularly in the Barolo region of Piemonte. Renato Ratti was born in 1934 in La Morra, Piemonte. Choosing to diverge from his family\u2019s traditional career path in medicine, Renato pursued studies at the Enological School in Alba. Which is now The Enoteca Regionale del Barbaresco, an institution dedicated to the science and quality certification of Barbaresco wines.\r\n\r\n\u201cRatti has an incredibly interesting history and produces a truly outstanding product. That\u2019s exactly the kind of legacy we enjoy working with at our restaurant. For instance, the iconic Barolo bottle design, which is now considered a cultural symbol, was introduced by Renato\u2019s grandfather and carried forward by his grandson, who runs the vineyard today,\u201d<\/em> Karl adds.\r\n\r\nRenato\u2019s career began in vermouth production as head of operations at Cinzano, a role that took him across southern Europe\u2019s wine regions. One region that captivated him was Burgundy, where he was inspired by the French concept of \u201ccrus,\u201d designations for specific vineyards or vineyard clusters.\r\n\r\n\"\"","tcc_dont_show_featured_image":"dontshow","tcc_right_content":"\"\"\r\n\r\nRecognizing the absence of a similar system in Barolo, Renato returned to Piemonte in 1965 and established his first vineyard, devoted to Barolo production.\r\n\r\nOver the following decades, he meticulously studied and mapped the Langhe region, classifying its vineyards in a manner similar to Burgundy. By the 1970s, Ratti had acquired key vineyards\u2014Marcenasco, Conca, Rocche, and Colomb\u00e9\u2014closely connected to Villa Pattono, which Karl visited.\r\n\r\n\u201cPiemonte and Villa Pattono are truly magical. It would be fantastic to arrange trips like this for our guests, offering them the chance to explore the regions that inspire L\u2019Avventura,\u201d<\/em> says Karl.\r\n\r\nToday, the Ratti vineyards are managed by Renato\u2019s son, Pietro, who took over at a young age after Renato\u2019s untimely passing in 1988. In 2004, Pietro constructed a state-of-the-art winery that combines advanced winemaking technology with sustainable practices. Since then, he has continued to refine the wines, focusing on showcasing their finesse and elegance.\r\n\r\nBarolo is now one of Piemonte\u2019s most esteemed wines, and on January 27th, we\u2019ll embark on a journey through this exceptional wine region.
